USTA Events Cancellation Notice

712d144e5c7b16ee84d9ca6f12c69184.jpeg
March 13, 2020

Dear USTA Official,

In light of the heightened concerns and the fast-changing environment surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the USTA has decided to suspend all USTA-sanctioned products and events through April 20th. The USTA statement and updates are available here.

This is an unprecedented situation for both the USTA and USTA Officiating. We want to reach out to prevent any concerns regarding the impacts that this event cancellation may have on your ability to fulfill work requirements for the 2021 recertification period.

Once the USTA understands the full impact on tournaments across the country, we will ensure that Officials are not disadvantaged with specific regard to their work records. We thank you for your patience and understanding as it may take some time. We will communicate with you once the full impact is understood.

Thank you,

Sean Cary

PNW/TOA Annual Membership Dues

From: Denise Alexander <alexander9688@comcast.net>
Date: Wednesday, November 20, 2019
Subject: PNW/TOA Annual Membership Dues

Hello PNW Officials,

Our annual PNW/TOA dues are due Jan. 1, 2020. Your membership dues pay for all of your Tennis Officials Association’s operational costs each year. We have a unique situation in our Section to be able to independently govern ourselves and to always support our Officials. As a reminder, our district and ITA assignors are also required to be members of the PNWTOA and they are not able to provide assigning services to PNW Officials for any tournaments or ITA matches unless your membership is current.

There are two ways to pay again this year, by PayPal or by check.
You will receive an invoice by email from PayPal if you would like to pay this way, or access the membership link on pnwtennisofficials.com (there is a $1.20 fee to use PayPal)
OR …
Filling out the Membership form: Download the membership form (PDF).
and send your check for $30 to:
Pacific Northwest Tennis Officials Association
706 122nd St Ct NW
Gig Harbor, Wa 98332

The re-certification period for 2020 went much smoother this year than in the past two years! The BoD was even confident enough to reach out again to the many people who had started the process about the time the new requirements where coming out and we were able to find a few who were still interested. 🙂 I’m very excited about the new work and educational opportunities ahead of us next year, I’ll be sending out a newsletter with more information on the up coming events starting in Jan.

Thanks to all of you for another successful year,
Denise Alexander, PNW/TOA President

USTA Safe Play Compliance for Recertification

Dear USTA Official,

To ensure a safe and fun environment for all participants, the USTA has developed “Safe Play”. Safe Play embodies the USTA’s commitment to respect and safety for every individual participating in a USTA event or program through the use of screening, education and reporting tools.

In order to be recertified, you are required to be in compliance with the USTA Safe Play program. Beginning this year, there is a change in the expiration date for all USTA Certified Officials. The biennial period for all green light USTA Certified Officials will expire on Sunday, September 30, 2018. In advance of this expiration, you must complete the following requirements:

Step 1: Complete the updated online Safe Play training. The USTA has adopted the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s training for this purpose. This training is mandated as a requirement for your recertification. This course will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.

IMPORTANT – when you create your training to access the training you MUST use the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS that is associated with your account with the USTA. This will ensure that your completion will sync up with your profile on OfficialsFirst.

To access the training, please click HERE.

You will be prompted to create an account (USE THE EMAIL ADDRESS THE USTA HAS ON FILE FOR YOU IN OFFICIALSFIRST) and will then have access to your learning dashboard.

From your learning dashboard, there are three 30 minute training modules to complete:

  • Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education
  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Emotional and Physical Misconduct

The modules do not need to be completed in one sitting. You can access your account again by visiting: https://safesport.org/, selecting “Menu” on the top left of the screen and selecting “Sign In”.

Once all three modules are completed a “SafeSport Trained” certificate can be downloaded for your records. This certificate will appear at the bottom of your learning dashboard.

Please be advised that the USTA requires all individuals working in player areas to act as mandatory reporters and report any conduct of which they become aware that could constitute (a) sexual misconduct; (b) child abuse; (c) misconduct that is reasonably related to the underlying allegation of sexual misconduct or child abuse; and (d) retaliation related to an allegation of sexual misconduct or child abuse. All reports must be immediate and sent to safeplay.

Step 2: Review USTA Safe Play Conduct, Policies, and Guidelines found here.

Step 3: Complete your Background Screening Application through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI): Click here.

  • Once the background screening application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from compliance with your NCSI Application ID number. This ID number can be used to check the status of your application on NCSI’s website.
  • Results will be generated in approximately 10 business dates. During this 10 day period, NCSI may contact you to request additional information. You can confirm the legitimacy of the request by checking your status on NCSI’s website using the Application ID number; your status will note the same request for information. Please watch for communications from NCSI as these emails may end up in your “spam” folder.
  • When your background screen is complete you will receive either a green or red light based on the results of your application and the USTA’s criteria. If you received a green light, you will be listed on the results page of usta.com: Click here. If you received a red light, you will be notified by NCSI of your status, and you will not be eligible to be certified by the USTA or provide officiating services for the USTA.

You must complete the USTA Safe Play Requirements before Sunday, September 30, 2018.

Completion of the Safe Play training and background screening requirements will be reflected on your OfficialsFirst account within 48 hours under the Basic Requirement section.

Thank you,
